Magnetic Devices

Caution: Powerful magnets may damage electronic devices such as TVs, VCRs, computer monitors and other CRT displays. They may also scramble data on magnetic media such as floppy disks, credit cards, ID cards, and audio or videocassette tapes. Powerful magnets can also affect the operation of pacemakers and other similar medical devices. Such magnets must never be placed near a person with such a device.

Two of these approx. 1000-Gauss trapezoid-shaped magnets are cemented to a single substrate. Each magnet is approx. 1.75"" x 0.375".

Powerful Magnet Assembly
Two powerful magnets (approx 1500 gauss) in a holder. These are relics from silicon valley disk drive manufacturing.
The assembly can be pried apart to expose two crescent shaped samarium cobalt magnets which can be detached from the plate. These are useful for attaching your diet on floppy disk to the side of the fridge in case you decide to DIEt as a new years resolution or for some other special occasion. Each magnet measures approx 1.75 x .75". Large quantity available on these and many other of our supermagnets.

Breakaway Magnet Assembly
These are stainless steel (rustproof) magnets used by fishermen in their downriggers. There are lots of applications for a device that will uncouple like these at about ten pounds pull. Supermagnet from Disk Drive
These powerful, curved supermagnets were made to be used in large disk drives. Each one can easily lift over thirty pounds, yet they are small for their power. The measurements are about 1&5/8 x 1&1/8 x 1/2" The magnet is cemented to a metal bracket which accounts for over half the size of the product. These magnets can be removed from their substrate by a variety of means, experimentation is needed to find the most economical method of removal. Dynamite nearly always works but it is not recommended in suburban environments.

Four Disk Drive Supermagnets
These magnets were designed for use in BIG hard drives. There are four identical magnets in each subassembly. They are quite powerful for their size, the assembly measures approx 2&3/8 x 1&1/2 x 1" and is easily split into two halves which are bilaterally symmetrical. The four magnets are identical in strength and shape, each measuring about 1 x 1 x 3/8".
The magnets are easily dislodged from these assemblies by prying against the vertical support member with a small screwdriver. Drop one of these into junior's diaper and back him into the fridge....he wont be underfoot for some time.

Decorator Magnets Set of Ten Pieces
Here we have a nice set of colored magnets that can be used to color code the condition of a product or perhaps as a different color each workday serve as cufflinks on a suit of armor. Magnetic Holding Fixture
All metal construction, holds up to 25 lbs in place at angles of 45, 90 or 135 degrees. Eight magnetic surfaces allow for several combinations to hold something material in place while it's being worked on. Handy for welding tasks, will not work on wood. Largest dimension 4.5" the two primary surfaces which are at 90 degrees from each other are three inches long, the tool is 1/2 inch thick.

Large Magnetic Holding Fixture
Heavy duty all metal holding fixture contains magnets reputed to hold up to 50lbs. We recommend that the user buy two of these to hold things in alignment while being tacked or screwed or drilled or smoked. The overall length is 6". The two main work surfaces measure about 3.5 x .75". A convenient finger hole is provided so one can test the strength of one's finger joints whilst trying to pull it off some iron. Holey Magnet
These cute little magnets measure 5 x 20mm and have a hole in the center about 7mm in diameter. The gauss reading is 1450 in the center of the hole. The applications are manifold, they can be used in conjunction with reed switches, Bentley Probes, hall effect switches or to find small lost things. The cool thing about the hole is that they can be screwed to a nonmagnetic surface like a Corvette hood to keep a tool like a crescent wrench handy.

Handy Pickup Magnet
These new handy magnets have a squeeze handle which will release the material it has picked up when actuated. It will pick up about 1.5 lb of a one piece item or about a pound of coarse material. Miniature Cylinder Magnet (set of four)
Four powerful bright metal plated ceramic magnets measured 5000 Gauss on our meter. The manufacturer calls them '3 pound pull' magnets because each one can hold three pounds they claim. These are small for their power they can be used in many applications; they are only 8.5mm across and 5mm thick. Hiding four of these in a wheel could become the nucleus of a fake perpetual motion machine. Other uses could include therapy, small magnetic pickup tool, temporary holding fixture or just have fun.

Two small cylinder magnets
A brace of bright metal plated ceramic magnets rated at eight pounds pull each by the manufacturer. We got curious as to how much of an 'exaggeration factor' was built into the claim so we found an old sledgehammer that weighed a little over seven pounds and tried to pick it up, much to our surprise we were able to get it up a few inches before it would slip off. Those little boogers are pretty slippery. So we figure that under ideal conditions they will probably pick up the weight they claim. All this gives us a warm fuzzy feeling about selling them. These magnets are 15mm in diameter and 5mm thick. They are strong enough that they are difficult to pry off a good metal surface so try the trick of sliding them onto a piece of card stock. Get junior a metal stool for his birthday, when he gets pesky drop a couple of these in his hip pockets and set him down. If the little healing magnets help; these should HELP. Use these to magnetize tools by stroking them across the face of one.

Ring Magnet
These are cute; they are a cylinder about 1 5/8” dia. and ¼” tall the wall thickness is about 1/8”. Some interesting effects could be studied with this shape of magnet. Certain healing applications may also be applicable to this particular shape. One could study the effects of the approx. 200 gauss field on colonies of bacteria or superglue one to the entrance to a hornets nest. These are stackable for an increased field intensity a unique thing about these magnets is that each has 3 north and 3 south poles. We had a hard time getting them to pose for the photo. Loads of possibilities here. Great educational tool or building block for a sculpture.

Mini Super Magnet
This small crescent shaped super magnet measured over 1300 gauss. It is very powerful for its small size 1 1/8” x ½” x 1/8”. These magnets can be broken into smaller sizes without damaging the magnetic properties. These could be useful in healing applications because of their small thin size. Composition is neodymium. Mini Super Magnet
This is another amazingly powerful (measured 1300+ gauss) magnet for its size. Light weight makes these good for applications where weight is important such as a magnet wrap. Two of these influence each other from several inches apart. SO they could be handy in hidden applications. These are not recommended to be used like refrigerator magnets as they will be very difficult to pull off unless they are epoxied to something you can get a good grip onto. These nickel plated (n35) grade magnets measure 600 gauss. They are drum shaped discs approx. 3/8” dia. X 3/16” thick (12.5 mm x 3 mm). These would be ideal for therapeutic applications because of their shape and size. These could be easily sewn into garments. We fed one to a frog whom complained that he wasn’t feeling jumpy.
