Small First Surface Mirror
First surface mirrors by Optical Coating Labs. Inc.
for some secret aerospace application. These featherweight flashers measure
about 1&1/2 by 1&5/8" by 0.0025" thick. Coated for I/R as well as visible light. They are very thin and brittle so beware when handling.
Clean with isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth. Each unit new and individually
packaged. Note: These are probably protected aluminum on a silicon wafer. A
mirror like this can be warped to distort a reflected image. Or to correct a
distorted image by reflecting the image off a mirror distorted in the opposite
direction. This called "adaptive optics" when this is done.
These cute thin mirrors could be used for "voicecoil" mounting for image
stabilization using PZTs, any fast pointing or slewing, and for light show
applications or communications or by reflecting a laser off one that is being
'modulated' by voices in a room ...James Bond spy style.. And you could use one
as a 'microphone' to modulate a I/R or visible light beam as a
communications device.

Avimo Laser Splitter/Combiner
Avimo p/n 201-060-004 standard glass prism made for
telecomm industry. These are used in fiber optic communications hardware where
dense wavelengths are employed and are used for switching, combining and
wavelength division multiplexing (wdm). They measure about 1.8 x 1 x .6 x 1 mm
and are about .4 mm thick. We have a large quantity available and will discount

Large Copy Lens by Minolta
These beautiful copy lenses measure 3.5" dia and 4" long. The focal length is
about 1.5". There are four holes in the front flange for mounting and a groove
in the rear collar for a clamp to hold the lens in place. Minolta

Front surface mirrors are used for laser and optical applications
because they are free of ghost images. These mirrors produce one
reflection from the aluminized surface. The aluminum is easily
scratched so it is protected with a peel-off layer of plastic for you to
remove after you have installed it..
Rear surface mirror are the usual kind of mirror. A laser pointer will
produce two reflected spots from these mirrors. This is because the
reflective silvered surface is on the backside of a normal mirror - so
light is reflected back by both the glass and the silvered surface. The
aluminum coating is protected by paint and may only be seen though the
glass. The reflection from the glass is about 4% of the incident light
at perpendicular incidence, but increases to 8% at 45 degrees. If
multiple rear surface mirrors are used, each one will contribute a ghost
image displaced from the primary image by an amount related to the
thickness of the glass and the angles. In some instances the ghosts are
not noticeable and so these mirrors are still used in rear projection
systems. Laser work generally requires front surface mirrors.
All of our mirrors are made from "float glass" which means that liquid
glass is poured onto a stream of molten tin and allowed to seek its own
level while cooling. This is how traditional window glass is made
today. There is a slight waviness of about ten wave peak to valley.
Small diameter laser beams are not affected by this so much as larger
beams so front surface mirrors are well suited for affordable laser,
holography, and imaging projects. Our sheets can be cut to size using
normal glass cutting methods.

It is an optically high grade mirror. The measurements are
26.75" high, 40.5" on the long side and 29" on the short end of the trapezoid.
The glass is approx 3/32" thick.
