Laser Fluorescence Beamsplitter Assembly Laser Fluorescence Beamsplitter
Assembly As nearly as we can tell, this is part of a Raman cell. Or maybe from
some other liquid or pressure cell designed to be probed by a green laser.
Typically a "pump" or excitation beam would be injected through the lens,
reflected off of the splitter and "injected into a cell. Liquid may flow through
the cell and the contents would glow a different color than the pump beam. The
fluorescent signal is caused by molecules "ringing" at colors specific to the
molecules being tested. Sometimes dyes are used to tag molecules so that they
may be sorted by color as the flow though the cell. A camera or detector would
be used to look though the prism and possibly a spectrometer. If this is the
kind of thing that you want to do, this could be a really great buy! If you are
looking for optics here is a description of what we seem to have. The
beamsplitting prism would normally be a cube made with two right angle prisms,
but this cube was then ground into an octagonal shape to fit into the stainless
steel barrel. The beam splitting surface reflects green light very well and is a
dichroic "argon" green. There are two functional windows on the sides of the
barrel and one of them has a ~ 4mm convex lens on the prism face while the other
side is simply transparent for alignment. If a laser pointer is directed through
the small side lens it emerges from the threaded end of the optic and nearly
evenly illuminates the concave lens at the threaded end of the barrel. The
concave negative lens at the threaded end of the barrel provides a wide view of
the world when one sights though the prism end of This threaded end (~1" & 40
TPI) of the cell has an "O" ring to seal for pressure or to prevent leakage in a
burst liquid flow system The other end of the barrel reveals the end view of the
octagonal prism and its antireflection coating. All of the elements appear to
have been cemented in place after alignment. A person could use a hair dryer to
remove the prism from the barrel. A soak in acetone would separate the prisms
after they had been removed from the barrel. NEW

Laser Diode 15mW 640nm
These are laser diodes in a SOT-148 package. The output is
rated at 15mW in the range of 635 to 645 nm range (very
visible). These units are very similar to the SDL # 7501 (see spec sheet) and
have been tested here at Alltronics.
These are current operated devices and must be used under regulated current and
voltage conditions. In other words these run on smoke, if you let the smoke out
don't blame us. One of these is a good inexpensive way to get acquainted with
this type of critter. DATA SHEET

680nm Laser Diode 30mW
These laser diodes are very similar to the SDL # 7311 laser
diodes in a sot-18 package. The output power is 30mW min in the 670 to 690 nm
range (see downloadable spec sheet).
These are low visible; the red beam is quite loud when they are laseing and one
shouldn't stare at in no matter how
fascinating it is. Laser diodes are current driven devices and must be powered
accordingly, if too much current is
applied it will become a dark emitting device. All of these have been tested
here and are functional when shipped. there is a ton of data on the care and
feeding of this type of goodie on the internet; free! Large quantity available.
Happy laseing. DATA SHEET
